For a room that needs added moisture, compare an actual humidifier: Pure Enrichment MistAire for cool mist or Honeywell HWM845 for warm mist. The Levoit Core 600S (Amazon search) is an air purifier and is not a humidifier recommendation.
Start with a hygrometer reading. Condensation, damp furnishings or an already humid room are reasons to stop adding moisture and investigate ventilation or a moisture source. Dry-feeling air alone does not establish the right appliance or setting.

The HWM845 is filter-free. It is not the Honeywell HCM350 cool-mist wick model, and the names must not be exchanged when ordering parts. A mist-related bacteria claim also does not establish that a tank stays sanitary or that this is the safest device for a family.
Budget beyond the purchase price
Use the model’s rated watts to estimate an upper-bound electricity cost: watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by operating hours and your electricity rate. A device that cycles will draw less than an assumption of continuous maximum operation. Compare both models under the same assumed schedule.
Add the cost of suitable water, cleaning supplies and replacement parts. A filter-free design removes a wick purchase, not the cleaning work. Before buying, look at how the tank opens, which surfaces are reachable and where you will empty it without wetting electrical parts.
A practical winter routine
Unplug before handling the water system. Empty standing water, dry accessible surfaces and refill as directed; use the exact manual’s cleaning and rinsing sequence. EPA recommends daily water care and cleaning portable humidifiers every third day. Never combine cleaning chemicals or operate the unit with cleaning solution inside.
Keep relative humidity at or below 50%, and reduce the setting further if condensation appears. Place the unit on a stable, water-resistant surface with a safe cord route. Warm mist belongs away from children, pets and traffic paths. An automatic empty-tank shutoff does not prevent burns or make an awkward placement safe.
Which should you choose?
Pick the cool-mist MistAire if you want to avoid heated water and can manage the water and cleaning routine. Choose the HWM845 only where its warm-mist operation is wanted and it can remain inaccessible to children and pets. Neither is a treatment recommendation for unexplained respiratory symptoms.
