The Werner MT-22 is an aluminum multi-position ladder with configuration-specific height and load instructions. Its hinges and locks make it versatile, but every permitted setup must follow Werner’s labels and manual.

This assessment uses Werner’s product information. It does not claim a hands-on stability or reach test.

Choose by the actual task

List the required working positions before buying. A short stepladder is simpler for frequent indoor tasks; an extension ladder is more direct for one exterior access pattern. The MT-22 makes sense only when its documented stepladder, extension or stair configurations solve recurring jobs and its folded size can be stored securely.

Do not choose ladder length from building story count. Measure the access point and use Werner’s configuration and reach guidance without standing on prohibited steps or stretching sideways.

Account for aluminum and electricity

Aluminum conducts electricity. Keep the MT-22 and user away from overhead lines and any task where electrical contact is possible. A fiberglass ladder reduces conductivity but still must be kept clear of energized hazards.

Set the ladder on firm, level support. Do not improvise leveling with loose blocks. Inspect feet, rails, hinges and locks; fully engage every required mechanism before climbing. Never move or reconfigure it while occupied.

Respect the duty rating

The load includes the user, clothing, tools and carried materials. Stay within the rating for the exact configuration. Maintain three-point contact while climbing, face the ladder and descend to reposition instead of leaning.

Store the ladder dry and supported so rails and mechanisms are not damaged. Replace parts only with components Werner identifies for the model.

Smaller and rival multi-position options

Model Rating Maker’s listed details
Werner MT-13 Type IA, 300 lb 14-foot reach height; twin stepladder, stairway stepladder, extension ladder, wall ladder and two scaffold bases; about 27 lb
Little Giant Velocity Model 22 Type IA, 300 lb 22-foot maximum extension reach; A-frame, extension, staircase, 90-degree and trestle-and-plank setups; 38.5 lb

The same hinge, lock and configuration rules apply to both. See the Little Giant Velocity review for that model.

Buying decision

Choose MT-22 when multiple documented configurations are truly needed and the user can handle its size and weight safely. Choose a simpler task-specific ladder when faster setup and fewer moving parts matter more.
