The American Standard Compact Cadet 3 model 2403128.020 is a two-piece compact elongated toilet. Its compact label does not prove room fit; the rough-in, finished projection, supply position, code clearances and door swing must all be measured.
This assessment uses American Standard’s specification sheet. It does not substitute for local plumbing or accessibility requirements.
Measure from finished surfaces
Measure the rough-in from the finished wall, rather than the baseboard, to the center of the closet bolts. Compare that dimension and the toilet’s published footprint and projection with the actual room. Mark the outline on the floor and operate the door, vanity drawers and shower screen.
Required side and front clearances vary by adopted code and project type. Verify them with the local authority rather than treating one national rule-of-thumb number as universal. Accessibility requirements can demand more space.
Check the flange and supply
The closet flange should be sound, properly positioned and anchored to a stable floor. A broken flange, soft subfloor or rocking existing toilet must be repaired before installation. Confirm the shutoff works and that the supply location clears the new bowl and tank.
Review what model 2403128.020 includes. A seat may be included on the manufacturer configuration, but retail bundles can vary; wax or waxless seal, supply connector and new mounting hardware may be separate.
Plan handling and service access
A two-piece toilet separates tank and bowl for carrying, but porcelain is still heavy and brittle. Protect the floor, lift safely and tighten fasteners evenly without forcing porcelain. Leave enough access to operate the shutoff and service the fill and flush components later.
Buying decision
Choose 2403128.020 when its exact rough-in, projection, footprint and supply clearances fit the measured room and local rules. Choose a round-front or another compact model only after comparing specification drawings, not category labels.
