Do not force an oven door closed or operate the oven to see whether heat makes it settle. Start with the appliance off and fully cool. A misplaced rack, an obstruction, an incorrectly seated door or a locking problem can produce similar symptoms but require different repairs.

If the door is hanging unevenly or appears about to detach, keep clear and arrange help. Oven doors are heavy, and hinge mechanisms can move suddenly. Do not use the handle as a lifting point unless the manufacturer specifically permits it.

Check what changed most recently

Recent event First thing to inspect safely
Racks were removed for cleaning Correct rack position and orientation
A large tray was inserted Whether cookware projects into the door path
Door was removed Model-specific hinge seating and locking instructions
Self-clean cycle ran Cooling and latch behavior described in the manual
Gasket was cleaned or replaced Correct placement and any displaced section

Remove loose obstructions only when the oven is cool. Look around the perimeter without pulling on the gasket or probing the latch. Some sealing and vent details are intentional; do not glue gaps shut or add household weatherstripping.

Avoid forcing the latch

A self-clean lock may remain engaged while the appliance cools. Follow the manual’s unlocking and fault procedure. Do not pry the latch, defeat the door switch or repeatedly start cleaning cycles as a troubleshooting method.

If one corner of the door sits lower after removal, stop and consult the exact reinstallation instructions. A door that appears closed may still have an improperly engaged hinge. Have it refitted by service personnel if safe handling or seating cannot be established.

Verify the repair before cooking

The door should move normally, sit evenly and close without holding it shut. Persistent gaps, damaged hinges or a latch error require service. Do not compensate for a leaking door by raising the cooking temperature; that does not resolve the mechanical or control problem.

Record the model, any error code and whether the symptom followed cleaning or disassembly. Those details help avoid an unnecessary gasket purchase when the real issue is alignment.
