The Drill Doctor 750X is a bench sharpener for supported drill bits, not a universal sharpener for every bit in a toolbox. Its value depends on how many suitable bits you maintain and whether you are willing to learn the alignment and sharpening procedure.

This review uses the manufacturer’s current product record. We have not measured edge life, sharpening accuracy or how many bits are needed to recover the purchase cost.

Supported work

The 750X manufacturer page specifies a 3/32-to-3/4-inch range and adjustable point angles from 115 to 140 degrees. It describes sharpening for supported high-speed steel, cobalt, carbide, black-oxide and titanium-nitride-coated bits, plus masonry bits. Split-point creation and sharpening are included functions.

Those statements do not mean that any object marketed as a drill bit fits. Check the manual’s geometry and setup requirements for the particular bit. Spade bits, hole saws, augers and other cutting tools should not be assumed compatible merely because their shanks fit in a drill.

The listed package includes the three-quarter-inch chuck, a 180-grit diamond wheel, wrench and storage bag. Confirm the regional electrical version: the US product is a 115-volt unit, not a universal 230-volt appliance.

Dull and broken bits are different jobs

A worn edge may need less material removed than a damaged point. The 750X includes an adjustable material take-off feature, but the amount of damage and remaining usable length still matter. A broken cutting lip is not automatically a reason to discard every bit; equally, sharpening cannot make a bent, cracked or otherwise unsuitable bit safe.

Follow the instructions for aligning the bit, selecting its point and using the sharpening ports. Inspect the result before returning it to work. A sharp-looking edge is not proof that the point is symmetrical or appropriate for the material. Keep the instructions with the machine rather than relying on a remembered procedure from another model.

When ownership makes sense

Inventory the bits you actually use. A workshop repeatedly dulling supported twist bits has a different case from a household replacing one inexpensive small bit occasionally. Compare the sharpener, replacement wheel and time spent learning against replacing or professionally sharpening the bits you own.

Do not apply an invented rule such as “four yes answers means buy” or promise that a fixed number of bits will pay for the machine. Bit prices, damage and usage vary too much for that conclusion without a real calculation.

Warranty and verdict

The current product page describes a three-year warranty but excludes abrasives and industrial or commercial use. Read the full terms for your location rather than treating professional-sounding marketing as a commercial-use warranty.

Consider the 750X for a recurring supply of compatible bits and a willingness to learn its setup. Skip it when most of your cutting tools fall outside its supported shapes or when replacement is simpler for your limited use.
