REME HALO is an in-duct air-treatment product, not a portable HEPA filter. An installer needs to identify the exact generation and explain what it is expected to add to an existing HVAC system. Do not buy an undefined “HALO” on the assumption that all versions use the same technology or have the same emissions validation.

We have not tested contaminant reduction in occupied homes or measured this equipment’s emissions. This assessment separates manufacturer claims from the questions a homeowner should resolve before installation.

Product names are consequential

RGF publishes separate information for HALO-LED and RGF: REME HALO Zero specifications (PDF) . The latter document describes UL 2998 zero-ozone validation. That statement should not be transferred to an older REME HALO unit simply because the names resemble one another.

Ask for the complete model and matching certification record in the quote. An emissions validation is not a guarantee that an installed system prevents infection, cures allergies or removes every pollutant in a home.

Why the evidence needs care

EPA’s guidance on bipolar ionization notes the comparatively limited research on safety and effectiveness outside laboratory conditions and the possibility of unwanted byproducts. For devices using that technology, it recommends UL 2998 certification.

Laboratory reductions need their test conditions: pollutant, chamber, time and operating setup. They should not become a blanket claim about every occupied room. Nor should a portable purifier’s smoke CADR or filter-change routine be applied to an in-duct treatment device that works differently.

Questions for the installer

Get a written explanation of HVAC compatibility, placement, power, controls and service access. Ask which replacement cell the specified version uses, its current cost, the replacement conditions and who will service it. Check warranty terms for the proposed seller and installer.

Separately address pollutant sources, ventilation, moisture and suitable HVAC filtration. Adding treatment does not repair a clogged filter, combustion problem or damp building. A contractor should explain any proposed filtration change without exceeding the system’s airflow limits.

Buying verdict

Do not treat this as a routine impulse purchase or a proven replacement for HEPA particle filtration. Consider it only after a qualified installer establishes fit and explains the evidence for the specific goal. A documented quote is more useful than a generic Amazon result mixing replacement cells and complete units, so no such shopping module is included here.
