The Ryobi RTS23 is a ten-inch table saw with a 27-inch maximum rip capacity and a folding rolling stand. It is a concrete option for a workshop that needs a portable saw, but the folded footprint is not the space needed to cut safely.

This review uses the documented features. We have not measured fence deflection, alignment retention, noise or cut quality against another saw.

Capacity belongs to the exact model

The RTS23 product page lists its rip capacity, integrated dust chute and wheeled stand. Do not transfer those specifications to an RTS12 or another Ryobi portable table saw merely because the blade diameter matches.

Rip capacity describes the supported fence setting, not a guarantee that a full sheet is manageable by one person. Long or wide stock needs suitable infeed, outfeed and side support. If the project is mainly breaking down large sheets in a tight garage, compare a guided circular-saw or track-saw arrangement instead.

Set up for the actual cut

Follow the manual when assembling and locking the stand, checking alignment and fitting the correct blade and throat plate. Keep the riving knife, blade guard and anti-kickback equipment installed for operations where required. A used saw missing these parts is not ready to use because its motor runs.

Use appropriate push devices and a controlled feed path. Do not make freehand cuts or trap a crosscut offcut between an improperly used fence and blade. Learn the permitted setup for the operation before starting it; portability does not reduce kickback risk.

Dust and power need their own plan

The dust chute is a connection feature, not proof that every hazardous dust is controlled. Match collection and protective measures to the material. Keep the working area and exit path clear rather than relying on a quick sweep after cutting.

Check the manual’s electrical and extension-cord requirements. Disconnect power before blade changes or adjustments. Stand and accessory storage should make correct reassembly easy without encouraging removal of safety equipment for convenience.

Verdict

Shortlist the RTS23 when its actual rip capacity, stock support and complete setup fit your projects. Inspect alignment and included components before committing to a used example. A more compact folded saw is not necessarily a better first saw; safe working space and a suitable cutting method are the more important purchase tests.
