Winix has credible choices at distinct room sizes, but there is no single “best Winix.” The A231 is the compact, non-Wi-Fi option; the 5510 is a rectangular mid-size model with Wi-Fi and a separate washable pre-filter; the T810 is a larger 360-degree intake design with Wi-Fi. Size the purchase with AHAM’s 4.8-air-changes-per-hour room figure and smoke CADR, then check the exact replacement-filter part number.

The room-size claims are based on 4.8 air changes per hour in an eight-foot-ceiling test room. The much larger “cleans in one hour” numbers on product pages represent one air change, so they should not be treated as equivalent sizing advice.
A231: the compact choice
Winix lists the A231 at 149/154/147 CADR for dust, pollen and smoke, an AHAM-verified 246-square-foot room, four speeds and a 25 dB minimum noise figure. It weighs 6.75 pounds and measures 9.5 by 9.5 by 14.6 inches. It has an air-quality sensor, auto mode and manual sleep mode, but no smart-home connection.
Choose it when compact placement matters and the AHAM size covers the room. Skip it when you need app control or are trying to cover a substantially larger open plan.
5510: the balanced current model
The 5510 is rated for a 392-square-foot AHAM room and publishes 252/247/253 CADR. It adds Wi-Fi/Alexa control, five speeds, dual sensors and automatic sleep mode. Winix identifies Filter Q, part 1712-0123-00, as the replacement set; that exact filter should be priced before buying.
This is the most straightforward current choice for a medium room in this comparison. It should not be described as a guaranteed reliability upgrade over the older 5500-2 because we do not have comparative failure data.
T810: more room coverage, different footprint
Winix lists the T810 at a 418-square-foot AHAM room size and uses a cylindrical 360-degree intake. The manual lists T810/T820/T830 dimensions at about 11.3 by 11.3 by 20.4 inches. It needs open space around the intake rather than being pushed tightly against furniture. Wi-Fi control is included.
Its main reason to buy is the larger verified room size and intake format. Current availability can change, so use the product page as a specification source and check stock separately.
Filters, placement and limits
Record the purifier model and filter part number together. “Fits Winix” marketplace filters are not evidence of the same media, seal or tested performance. Clean the pre-filter only as directed, keep air inlets and outlets clear, and reset the indicator after installing the correct replacement.
An air purifier can reduce airborne particles that pass through it; it does not repair a moisture problem, remove a combustion source or substitute for kitchen and bathroom exhaust. Address the source first when smoke, mold or chemical exposure is ongoing.
Buying route and verdict
Compare the current Winix catalog , then open the exact pages for the A231 user manual (PDF) , 5510 or T810 . The Amazon search button may mix older units, refurbished offers and third-party filters, so match the model and seller before checkout.
