Pick by your valve size and your smart-home network. The YoLink EVO Valve Operator fits ball valves from 1/2 inch up to 2 inches, runs on four AA batteries (with an optional AC adapter), and talks to a YoLink hub over long-range LoRa radio. The Zooz Titan ZAC36 fits only 1/2- to 1-1/4-inch ball valves, plugs into a 12-volt power supply, and joins a Z-Wave network. Titan’s included wired leak probe can shut the water off even if all wireless links fail. Both clamp onto an existing quarter-turn ball valve. Neither works on a gate valve or a seized, leaking valve.

Which fits your house

  • Main valve larger than 1-1/4 inch: YoLink is the only one of the two that fits.
  • No outlet near the valve, or frequent power outages: YoLink runs on batteries. Titan needs its backup pack to keep working in an outage.
  • You already run a Z-Wave controller: Titan joins that network. Test the signal at the valve, not beside the hub.
  • You want shutoff to work with no hub or internet: both have a path. YoLink uses Control-D2D with a paired sensor. Titan uses its wired probe. Place the sensor or probe where water will actually pool.

Check the valve before buying either

A motor cannot fix a bad valve. Find the main shutoff and confirm it is a quarter-turn ball valve. Turn it by hand through its full travel and check for stiffness or a drip at the stem. If it is stiff, corroded or a multi-turn gate valve, have a plumber service or replace it first; see the stuck shutoff-valve guide . Check the clearances above around the pipe, the wall, the meter and any insulation.

Test it after installing

Test it once at install and then on a schedule. Wet the sensor or probe with a little clean water and confirm the valve closes and a notification arrives. Repeat with the hub unplugged and the internet off. Confirm that everyone in the house knows the manual release. A closed valve stops new water coming in, but water already in the pipes, water heater and fixtures can still drain out. Do not set the system to reopen the valve automatically when a sensor dries.
