The Ring Floodlight Cam Wired Plus replaces an existing outdoor light fixture with a 1080p HDR camera and two 2,000-lumen floodlights. It’s hardwired (110–240V), connects only to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and needs a Ring Protect plan to save video. Without a plan you can watch live but can’t review recordings. It suits a wired floodlight location with a solid 2.4 GHz signal. It isn’t for a spot with no wiring or for someone who wants local recording without a subscription.

This page uses Ring’s U.S. product page and Ring’s safety and compliance sheet for model 5AT3T2. Nobody installed or tested the camera for it.

Check the location before buying

  • Wi-Fi: run a speed test with your phone at the mounting spot on the 2.4 GHz band. The camera can’t use 5 GHz.
  • Wiring: Ring’s safety sheet says to install only where a ground wire is present. Don’t put it on a circuit that also feeds motor loads such as kitchen appliances, HVAC equipment, a washer or dryer, or a garage door opener. Mount it on a wall or eave, never on the ground, and don’t install it in the rain.
  • View: aim the camera at the approach path, such as the driveway or walk, rather than the street or a neighbor’s windows. A 1080p image from far away won’t always identify a face.

Installation

Turn off the breaker and test that the power is off before you remove the old fixture. Follow Ring’s instructions for the mounting bracket, seals and ground connection. If the box is loose, the wires are damaged, there’s no ground, or you’re unsure which wire is which, hire an electrician.

After installing, set motion zones and light sensitivity so passing cars, trees and reflective surfaces don’t trigger constant alerts. Turn on two-step verification for the Ring account and review who has shared access.

Verdict

The Wired Plus is a sensible upgrade for an existing hardwired floodlight location with good 2.4 GHz coverage, as long as you’re willing to pay for Ring Protect to keep recordings. Skip it if the spot has no wiring or ground, your Wi-Fi only reaches there on 5 GHz, or you want recordings without a subscription.
