Verdict
KitchenAid’s current dishwasher range includes materially different wash arms, third racks, drying systems, filters, sound ratings, capacities, and controls. A brand-level reliability or repair-cost verdict is not supportable. Choose by the full model number, installation drawing, owner manual, and warranty.
Current lineup differences
KitchenAid’s catalog lists models with ProWash cycles, different totals and arrangements of wash jets, two- or three-rack layouts, and several dry systems. Published sound ratings also vary. Treat each feature as model-specific.
Some current models use manual filters; KitchenAid’s 2025 quick-start guide tells owners of applicable models to remove and rinse the filter every one to three months. Other KitchenAid documentation says select models use maintenance-free filtration. Do not clean, remove, or buy a filter until the exact manual identifies the system.
What to measure and compare
Check cabinet opening width, height, depth, floor level, door clearance, supply, drain route, electrical connection, and local installation requirements. Then compare:
- rack spacing with your actual plates, pans, bottles, and utensils;
- third-rack usable depth, not merely its presence;
- drying method and whether rinse aid is recommended;
- cycle and option labels;
- published dBA;
- filter-care requirements;
- leak protection and connection details;
- complete written warranty.
Service and ownership
Record the model and serial number and keep the installation and warranty documents. KitchenAid provides an owners center for manuals, parts, troubleshooting, and service. Start there rather than assuming a symptom proves a failed pump or control.
Poor cleaning can come from loading that blocks spray arms, a dirty or loose filter where applicable, wrong detergent, inadequate water temperature, or a drain/supply problem. Diagnose from the exact manual. Warranty coverage also varies; KitchenAid says the model’s warranty document controls.
