Research scope: This review uses Level’s current technical and support documents. We did not test battery runtime, radio range or forced entry.
The current Level choices
Level Lock+ (Matter) is the discreet full-lock option with Bluetooth, Matter over Thread, NFC and Apple home key. Level specifies 2-3/8 or 2-3/4-inch backset, one CR2 battery, IPX4 exterior resistance and remote ecosystems through a compatible Matter-over-Thread controller.
Level Lock Pro, released in 2025, adds hardware door-status awareness and touch-to-lock/unlock functions. Level Bolt (Matter) keeps the existing exterior hardware and replaces internal deadbolt components. Older non-Matter Level locks can use Level Connect, a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bridge placed within 20 feet; one bridge pairs with one lock.
Invisible hardware has strict fit requirements
The motor and battery live inside the bore and bolt, so measure door thickness, 2-1/8-inch cross-bore, edge bore, backset and strike. Level Lock+ Matter requires its supplied strike plate; Level says other manufacturers’ strikes do not work. Correct sag, rubbing or weather-related binding before installation.
Matter remote access needs a compatible Thread controller. Level Connect is a different route and adds remote Level-app features to supported locks. Do not buy both automatically: choose the connection method and functions first. Keypad is sold separately, and door-status alerts require the appropriate Lock Pro hardware.
Entry and fallback
Lock+ Matter supports physical keys, app control, NFC fobs and Apple home key; code entry needs Level Keypad. Keep a physical-key plan, record who has administrator access and test behavior during internet loss. Level publishes up to six months’ CR2 life under typical conditions, but alignment, radio conditions and use affect it.
Buying route and verdict
Check Lock+ Matter specifications , Lock Pro differences and Level Connect requirements .
Choose Lock+ Matter for a complete discreet lock with Thread and Apple home key, Lock Pro when door status and touch functions justify it, or Bolt when retaining visible hardware matters. The clean appearance is valuable only after door fit and remote-access requirements are verified.
