Those capacities are model ratings under the current test basis, not bucket volume. Choose capacity from the actual moisture load, temperature and drainage plan rather than the room’s marketing label.
The 50-pint DT501BKR0 is the concrete option for a persistently damp basement that can support its electrical load and water removal. LG provides a 2026 manual and model-specific support page, making it easier to verify current operation and warranty than relying on an older UD501 review.
Drainage decides daily effort
Before ordering, distinguish bucket collection, gravity drain and any pump feature on the exact model. A hose requires continuous fall with no kinks or submerged outlet. A pump can lift water only within its manual’s limits and is not a substitute for leak protection. Route discharge where a loose hose or power outage cannot flood finished space.
Keep the unit upright for the manufacturer-specified settling period after transport. Provide intake/exhaust clearance and operate within the manual’s temperature range. Frosting or poor output in a cold basement may be an application problem rather than insufficient pint rating.
What it cannot fix
A dehumidifier handles airborne moisture after bulk-water sources are controlled. Repair plumbing leaks, grading, foundation entry and overflowing drains first. Set a measured humidity target with an independent hygrometer and avoid driving a cool basement unnecessarily dry.
Clean the filter and bucket on the documented schedule. Confirm service access and warranty before treating Wi-Fi controls as a deciding feature.
