The concrete current model

The PCC606LA is a Porter-Cable 20V Max half-inch drill/driver package. Porter-Cable lists up to 330 unit watts out, an all-metal ratcheting chuck, LED and battery fuel gauge. The package includes one battery, charger and double-ended bit.

This is a standard drill/driver, not a hammer drill. For masonry work, Porter-Cable lists PCC620B as a separate hammer-drill bare tool. The distinction matters more than a generic “Porter-Cable drill” label.

Best fit

PCC606LA suits common pilot holes, furniture assembly, hardware and moderate drilling with the correct bit. The half-inch chuck allows larger accessories, but bit capacity and manufacturer guidance still control the job. Use low speed for larger bits/high load and high speed for small drilling where permitted.

One included battery makes a ready-to-use kit but can interrupt work while charging. Price a second compatible pack if projects run longer. Before committing to the platform, check whether its current tool range covers likely future purchases rather than choosing on the drill price alone.

Safe use and fastener control

Seat the bit fully, select the clutch for driving and brace for a bind. A drill’s output rating does not specify the correct torque for structural or manufacturer-critical fasteners. Use the fastener specification and an appropriate calibrated tool where required.

Remove the battery for bit changes and inspect the chuck and pack after a drop. Use a verified hammer drill or rotary hammer for masonry rather than forcing a standard drill through repeated concrete holes.

Verdict and buying route

PCC606LA is a defensible value kit for general home work when one battery is enough and the Porter-Cable platform fits future needs. Buyers needing masonry mode should compare PCC620B and full kit cost; buyers already invested in another battery system usually gain more by staying there.
