The Ryobi PBLRS01B is an 18V ONE+ HP brushless reciprocating saw for suitable rough-cutting tasks. It is worth comparing for demolition and removal work where a clean finish edge is not the objective. Owning a compatible battery helps with cost, but does not make every cutting task appropriate.

We have not measured cutting speed, vibration or runtime. The recommendation is based on the documented model and the requirements of the job.

What the specification establishes

Ryobi’s PBLRS01B page lists a 1-1/4-inch stroke and up to 3,200 strokes per minute. The B version is tool-only. Its advertised cuts-per-charge result depends on the battery and test material, so it is not a promise for your demolition project.

Stroke length is blade travel, not maximum material thickness. The selected blade must stay appropriately engaged throughout the stroke and meet the manual’s requirements. Match its material rating, length and tooth design to the work rather than using whichever blade is already attached.

Before cutting into an assembly

Identify wiring, plumbing, gas lines, fasteners and structural members. A wall surface or detector reading alone is not proof that the hidden path is clear. Isolate services appropriately and use qualified help where their location or the structure is uncertain.

Old building materials can contain hazardous substances. Determine whether testing or controlled removal is required before creating dust. A cordless saw does not remove those concerns.

Support and secure the work, maintain control with the prescribed grip and shoe position, and avoid binding the blade. Do not perform unstable overhead or ladder cuts simply because there is no cord to manage.

When another tool is preferable

For a straight finish cut in visible trim or a sheet edge, compare a suitable fine-cutting saw and guide. For occasional accessible hand cuts, a hand saw may avoid the cost and setup of another powered tool. Pruning requires an appropriate blade and safe ground-level working position; it does not justify reaching into an uncontrolled branch.

Verdict

Shortlist the PBLRS01B when rough cutting is the actual task and the complete battery-and-blade setup fits. Safe access, material identification and control determine whether the cut should happen at all.
